My sketchbook is half-way there!
Monday, November 21, 2011 at 12:28PM I can't believe how long it has taken me to even get just half-way with this little book. I have a new respect for minature artworks.
We moved to Durban when I was ten years old and I went to school at Bushland’s Primary School on the Bluff. I figured out that if I ran out of school as the bell went - I could beat the bus home. (This way I managed to save the bus fare my mom gave to me)

These following two pages are a tribute to my early high school years. The Pegasus was part of the school badge. My art teacher used to teach from a small ladder, often sing: “Teddy Bears’ Picnic” and the green bell pepper used to be a popular subject in art classes in the 70’s.

We moved to Vanderbijlpark in my last year of school.(My family were absolute nomads.) I got lost on the way home after my first day at school & I broke my school shoe. The town is built on a circular plan & I kept turning down the wrong streets. (My sense of direction is terrible at the best of times!) I eventually arrived home weepy, dusty & tired – my parents bought me a yellow Passola scooter that became my transport right through my university years. I remember being devastated when Bob Marley died – I spent a lot of my teenage years listening to reggae.

Did your mom ever noticed you always out of breath every time you got home? I mean running to beat the school bus requires a lot of running.
My mom probably knew what I was up to but never said anything. :-) I was also a very good runner then.
